This vibrant vintage Guatemalan textile is a handwoven cotton masterpiece, richly adorned with traditional Mayan motifs and radiant colourwork. The piece showcases horizontal bands filled with geometric patterns, zigzags, diamonds, and intricate floral arrangements all woven in vivid hues of blue, purple, red, green, orange, and yellow.
Central to the design are symmetrical bird motifs, likely quetzals, the national bird of Guatemala, framed by blooming florals and swirling vines, symbolising nature and cultural identity. The craftsmanship reflects the indigenous weaving traditions of highland Guatemala, possibly originating from regions such as Chichicastenango or Sololá.
This textile, once part of a huipil (traditional blouse) or decorative panel, is both a visual celebration of heritage and a testament to the artistry that has been passed down through generations. Perfect as a wall hanging or collectable display piece.
Authentic antique and vintage Guatemalan textiles are hand-woven with wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and unique.
