This vintage European loom tapestry features a beautifully detailed bouquet of flowers arranged in an ornate, classical-style vase. The centerpiece showcases a rich variety of blossoms including roses, tulips, and other delicate flowers, rendered in soft, muted shades of pink, yellow, blue, and green. The flowers appear lush and full, spilling slightly over the edge of the vase, which is depicted with intricate patterns and rich golden tones.
The tapestry is bordered with a decorative frame featuring a garland of roses and golden leaves against a green background, adding elegance and harmony to the overall composition. The floral theme and classical design evoke a timeless sense of beauty and refinement typical of European tapestry art, making it a perfect decorative piece for vintage or traditional interiors.
Jacquard's loom invention in 1804 enabled single warp control and revolutionised weaving. Since then, there have been numerous improvements to the ancient drawloom, which allowed pictorial repeats in weavings as early as the pre-Christian era. Finally, after almost two centuries, single warp control via punched cards has been replaced by electronic means, resulting in products that are now suitable as a woven base for the art market.
In the early days of jacquard machines, they were used to weave delicate damasks and fabrics for interior textiles, making them affordable for the wider population. However, jacquard tapestries, machine-produced in wool, were also available, and according to a German law passed in 1913, they had to be described as "imitation gobelins" to distinguish them from woven tapestries.
Authentic vintage and antique European jacquard loom tapestries and textiles are woven with cotton, polyester and viscose. Each one is an exceptional work of art.
