This exquisite antique Caucasian Kazak Pinwheel rug is a remarkable expression of tribal artistry, distinguished by its bold movement, rich symbolism, and beautifully balanced composition. Dramatic pinwheel motifs unfold across a warm madder-red field, surrounded by stylised rosettes, geometric emblems, and angular forms in deep indigo, soft ivory, olive green, and touches of earthy gold. The powerful symmetry, expressive drawing, and naturally aged colours give the rug an unmistakable presence. At the same time, subtle variations in the hand-knotted wool reveal the individuality and skill of its original weaver.

When we acquired this important piece, its original borders were missing, leaving the central composition incomplete and vulnerable. Restoring them became a meticulous undertaking that required nearly six months of specialist work. Our experienced restorers carefully reconstructed the borders by hand, thoughtfully matching the rug’s traditional motifs, weave, colours, and antique character so they would harmonise naturally with the surviving field. The result preserves the spirit and visual integrity of the original design while giving this rare Kazak rug renewed strength and completeness a true labour of patience, craftsmanship, and respect for its history.

Pictures are taken in natural light to portray the most realistic colours possible. Due to the natural characteristics and imperfections of handmade rugs, slight variations and minor flaws are not considered defects.
