This remarkable Northwest Persian rug is a captivating example of traditional village weaving, distinguished by its richly symbolic pictorial design and striking Tree of Life composition. Set against a deep midnight-blue field, the design unfolds vertically through an elaborate network of flowering trees, angular branches, stylised blossoms, birds, and animals, creating a wonderfully expressive scene filled with movement and character.

The central Tree of Life rises dramatically through the composition, surrounded by an extraordinary collection of symbolic creatures and botanical motifs. Deer, birds, and other charmingly stylised animals appear throughout the field, while the lower section develops into an especially lively pictorial scene. Rather than following strict symmetry, the motifs possess the spontaneous character associated with accomplished village weaving, giving the rug an individual and almost storytelling quality.

Its palette is particularly attractive, combining deep madder red and midnight navy with muted turquoise, soft blue, ivory, salmon pink, rust, and warm ochre. These colours have mellowed beautifully with age, creating a rich patina that enhances the rug's antique character.
