$169 $283

Size: 3.7 x 3.5 ft.

Origin: Sindh

Circa: 1970s

Material: Wool & Floss Embroidery

This vibrant vintage Sindhi embroidery textile is crafted using wool and colourful floss threads. The base fabric is a dark wool, providing a striking backdrop for the vivid embroidery. The design features a central medallion surrounded by four circular floral and paisley-like motifs, each bursting with intricate, starburst-like stitches in dazzling shades of orange, pink, blue, purple, and cream.

The embroidery is characterised by dense, expressive stitching, including cross-stitches, running stitches, and chain stitches, typical of traditional Sindhi needlework. The borders are framed with zigzag and star-shaped patterns, adding dynamic energy to the piece. The edges are slightly fringed, giving it a charmingly rustic and handcrafted feel.

This textile likely served as a decorative panel, wall hanging, or part of traditional attire, reflecting Sindh's rich cultural heritage and artisanal skill, a region known for its bold and colorful embroidery traditions.

Authentic antique and vintage Sindhi textiles are hand-embroidered with cotton, metal thread and wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and one of a kind.

Pictures are taken in natural light to portray the most realistic colours possible. Due to the handmade and preloved nature, slight imperfections and flaws are not defects.

It’s 1990 all over again!

In the early 1990’s, my wife I were obsessed with hand woven, vegetable dyed Turkish carpets from Azeri/Woven Legends. We spent so much time at ABC Carpet & Home in NYC, we became good friends with the head rug buyer!! We haven’t purchased a rug in years, but I found a wonderful Woven Legends carpet at Shopvintagerugs and bought myself an early birthday present. The rug was shipped from Pakistan on Monday, made its way to Dubai, then Boston, Memphis and finally arrived to us today. I couldn’t be happier!
