This vintage Burmese hand-embroidered tapestry, made with silk, velvet, and metal thread, is a stunning example of intricate craftsmanship. Set against a rich burgundy velvet background, the tapestry depicts a lively and elaborate procession scene featuring figures on elephants, horses, and chariots, adorned with ornate costumes and headdresses.

The embroidery is beautifully detailed, using shimmering gold and silver metal threads, sequins, and beads to highlight the figures, animals, and decorative elements. Delicate floral and cloud motifs are scattered throughout the composition, adding movement and balance. The border is framed with a scrolling floral pattern in metallic thread, enhancing the opulent feel of the piece, while the top is finished with fabric loops for hanging.

This tapestry reflects the cultural richness and artistic tradition of Burma (Myanmar), making it a striking decorative piece that brings a sense of history, drama, and luxury to any interior.

It’s 1990 all over again!

In the early 1990’s, my wife I were obsessed with hand woven, vegetable dyed Turkish carpets from Azeri/Woven Legends. We spent so much time at ABC Carpet & Home in NYC, we became good friends with the head rug buyer!! We haven’t purchased a rug in years, but I found a wonderful Woven Legends carpet at Shopvintagerugs and bought myself an early birthday present. The rug was shipped from Pakistan on Monday, made its way to Dubai, then Boston, Memphis and finally arrived to us today. I couldn’t be happier!
