This vintage Turkoman hallway rug is easily recognisable by its bold, repeating geometric gul (medallion) motifs arranged in vertical rows along the central field. The rug features a rich palette of earthy tones, soft browns, and deep blacks, with the distinctive octagonal and diamond-shaped designs that are hallmarks of Turkoman weaving. The narrow proportions and elongated form make it perfect as a runner or hallway piece. The border frames the design with zigzag and hooked patterns, adding a strong sense of rhythm and symmetry. Handwoven by Turkoman nomads of Central Asia, this rug reflects tribal identity, durability, and the mastery of symmetrical knotting techniques passed down through generations.

In the early 1990’s, my wife I were obsessed with hand woven, vegetable dyed Turkish carpets from Azeri/Woven Legends. We spent so much time at ABC Carpet & Home in NYC, we became good friends with the head rug buyer!! We haven’t purchased a rug in years, but I found a wonderful Woven Legends carpet at Shopvintagerugs and bought myself an early birthday present. The rug was shipped from Pakistan on Monday, made its way to Dubai, then Boston, Memphis and finally arrived to us today. I couldn’t be happier!
