This vintage Belgian loom tapestry features a detailed hunting scene set in a woodland setting, with a stag standing in a stream, surrounded by hounds and two riders on horseback, who watch nearby. Woven in warm, earthy tones of green, rust, and brown, it captures the elegance and tradition of European artistry, serving as a striking decorative wall hanging for interiors inspired by classic heritage and timeless style.

Jacquard's loom invention in 1804 enabled single warp control and revolutionised weaving. Since then, numerous improvements have been made to the ancient draw loom, which enabled pictorial repeats in weavings as early as the pre-Christian era. Finally, after almost two centuries, single warp control via punched cards has been replaced by electronic means, resulting in products that are now suitable as a woven base for the art market.

In the early days of jacquard machines, they were used to weave delicate damasks and fabrics for interior textiles, making them affordable for the broader population. However, jacquard tapestries, machine-produced in wool, were also available, and according to a German law passed in 1913, they had to be described as "imitation gobelins" to distinguish them from woven tapestries.

Authentic vintage and antique European jacquard loom tapestries and textiles are woven with cotton, polyester and viscose. Each one is an exceptional work of art.

It’s 1990 all over again!

In the early 1990’s, my wife I were obsessed with hand woven, vegetable dyed Turkish carpets from Azeri/Woven Legends. We spent so much time at ABC Carpet & Home in NYC, we became good friends with the head rug buyer!! We haven’t purchased a rug in years, but I found a wonderful Woven Legends carpet at Shopvintagerugs and bought myself an early birthday present. The rug was shipped from Pakistan on Monday, made its way to Dubai, then Boston, Memphis and finally arrived to us today. I couldn’t be happier!
