This is a vintage Scandinavian wool Rya rug, showcasing the bold artistry and texture typical of mid-century Nordic design. The composition features a striking abstract pattern resembling a tree silhouette with a vivid orange sun or blossom at its heart. The background blends earthy tones of beige, brown, cream, and black, creating a dynamic contrast with the vibrant centre. The thick, plush pile gives it a wonderfully soft and tactile quality, while the decorative loops at the top edge suggest it can be used both as a floor covering or a wall hanging. The vintage carpet was masterfully hand-executed with the finest wool, following traditional and refined weaving techniques, and reached the Middle Ages.

Its style, Rya, developed centuries ago in Scandinavia to protect people, especially mariners living off the sea, from severe weather conditions.

Despite their historical heritage, the antique bears have an exceptionally modern design, set in the aesthetic standards of the 1950s.
