A refined 17th-century French Aubusson tapestry fragment, hand-woven in silk and wool. The scene is a lush Baroque still life: full-blown roses and tulips gathered with curling leaves, a cluster of grapes at the upper right, and voluted strapwork framing the bouquet beneath a draped swag. Silken highlights catch the light, lending depth to the shaded foliage and petals.
The palette is soft and sophisticated, honey and sand ground with celadon, deep teal, blush, and umber, mellowed beautifully by age. As a fragment, it retains its original selvedge on portions of the edge; light wear, scattered small repairs, and minor losses are consistent with its age and enhance the textile’s character.
Elegant and versatile, this piece displays wonderfully as wall art, over a console, or framed, offering an authentic glimpse into the artistry of the Aubusson workshops.
