A vibrant vintage Uzbek suzani, finely hand-embroidered in silk on a soft cotton ground. The composition centres on a radiating roundel ringed by rosettes, with scrolling vines that release boteh sprays, pomegranates, and small carnation rosettes that dance across the field. A lavish meander border frames the piece with repeating blossoms and leafy tendrils.
The palette glows: a raspberry-crimson field enlivened by saffron and gold stems, fuchsia and rose rosettes, indigo and sky-blue accents, and crisp white highlights classic Central Asian colour play that reads both opulent and joyful.
Worked in traditional suzani stitches (including couching and chain-stitch variants), the textile shows the gentle patina of age with minor, expected irregularities that add to its charm. Beautiful as a wall hanging, draped over a bed or sofa, or framed as statement art, it’s an exuberant example of Uzbek silk-and-cotton needlework.
