This striking vintage Persian Mazlaghan wool rug showcases the bold, tribal aesthetic for which the region is celebrated. Dominating the composition is a dramatic, elongated red hexagonal medallion with angular extensions, filled with stylised leaf and arrowhead motifs in deep navy, ivory, and ochre. The medallion radiates against a midnight blue field patterned with a dense array of abstract floral and geometric rosettes, lending rhythm and intricacy to the backdrop.
The dynamic jagged edges of the medallion, known as “lightning” outlines, enhance its visual intensity and energy. Framed by layered borders, the primary border features alternating floral rosettes and boteh forms on a soft green ground. At the same time, the inner and outer guards add contrast in rich berry and ivory tones.
Hand-knotted in durable wool with natural dyes, this Mazlaghan rug seamlessly blends tribal vibrancy with balanced symmetry, making it an impactful piece that suits both traditional and eclectic interiors.
