This vintage Turkoman Ersari rug showcases the bold, tribal elegance characteristic of the Ersari weaving tradition. The design radiates symmetry and strength, featuring a rich crimson red field adorned with large, repeating octagonal gul motifs in deep charcoal and black. Each gul is finely detailed with geometric interior patterns, framed by smaller secondary motifs between the rows, creating a balanced, rhythmic visual flow. The narrow borders are subtly decorated, allowing the powerful central field to take centre stage. Handwoven with high-quality wool, this rug embodies the nomadic spirit, durability, and distinctive artistry of the Ersari people, making it a striking and authentic statement piece for any interior.

In the early 1990’s, my wife I were obsessed with hand woven, vegetable dyed Turkish carpets from Azeri/Woven Legends. We spent so much time at ABC Carpet & Home in NYC, we became good friends with the head rug buyer!! We haven’t purchased a rug in years, but I found a wonderful Woven Legends carpet at Shopvintagerugs and bought myself an early birthday present. The rug was shipped from Pakistan on Monday, made its way to Dubai, then Boston, Memphis and finally arrived to us today. I couldn’t be happier!
