This lovely antique Caucasian Shirvan tribal rug is a delicate and soulful piece that embodies the refined symmetry and symbolic depth of Shirvan weaving traditions. Woven in soft wool and aged to a muted, timeworn palette, the rug features a central column of cruciform medallions, each rendered in a stylised, angular form. Warm tones of brick red and soft olive green stand out against a faded ivory field, giving the rug a serene and subtle charm.
Scattered throughout the field are small rosettes, stars, and hooked floral motifs, all symmetrically arranged with a tribal precision. The design’s restrained geometry is further elevated by the narrow border bands: a teal-green frame punctuated with diamond and chevron motifs in red and brown, enclosed by a thin red outer line that provides gentle contrast.
The visible wear and abrash speak to the rug’s age and authenticity, enhancing its character and historical allure. This rug is perfect for collectors or interior spaces that appreciate understated tribal elegance, time-softened colours, and a genuine connection to the weaving traditions of the Caucasus.
