In the 18th and 19th centuries, some rug workshops removed abstract patterns, depicting subjects taken from classical prose and poetry instead.
Instead, scenes of country life, hunting and mythical subjects were woven in silk and wool.
This exquisite rug was drawn directly from a Louis XIX Gobelin tapestry from the series Les sujets de la Fable, following Raphael's drawings.

In the early 1990’s, my wife I were obsessed with hand woven, vegetable dyed Turkish carpets from Azeri/Woven Legends. We spent so much time at ABC Carpet & Home in NYC, we became good friends with the head rug buyer!! We haven’t purchased a rug in years, but I found a wonderful Woven Legends carpet at Shopvintagerugs and bought myself an early birthday present. The rug was shipped from Pakistan on Monday, made its way to Dubai, then Boston, Memphis and finally arrived to us today. I couldn’t be happier!
