This antique East Turkestan Khotan rug showcases a captivating geometric design centred around concentric diamond medallions that radiate outward in a rhythmic, almost hypnotic formation. Woven in a rich palette of earthy tones—burnt orange, ochre, muted rose, and deep indigo—it features intricate small-scale floral motifs and cross-hatch patterns meticulously aligned within each band. The rug's symmetry and stylised repetition are hallmarks of the Khotan weaving tradition, blending Chinese, Persian, and Central Asian influences. Its broad borders, filled with alternating rosettes and angular motifs, frame the dynamic field with a sense of balance and ornate refinement, making it a striking example of 19th and 20th-century craftsmanship from the oasis towns of the Silk Road.
Authentic vintage and antique Khotan rugs are hand-knotted with wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and one of a kind. Pictures are taken in natural light to portray the most realistic colours possible. Due to these rugs' handmade and preloved nature, slight imperfections and flaws are not defects.
