This charming antique Southeast Caucasian kilim panel is a delightful expression of tribal creativity and regional textile tradition, likely woven in the late 19th to early 20th century. Rich in earthy tones and graphic motifs, it presents a balanced and vibrant composition that reflects the nomadic aesthetic of the region.
The panel is divided into alternating bands of flat-woven stripes and geometric medallions. The upper and lower thirds feature soft camel-colored ground with dark brown horizontal stripes, lending a grounding simplicity to the overall piece. At its heart, a sequence of horizontal bands is adorned with bold hexagonal and cruciform motifs in shades of terracotta red, soft rose, olive green, ivory, and sky blue. These motifs are framed by narrow borders of diamond rosettes and tribal "eye" elements, woven in a palette of deep burgundy, navy, and cream.
Woven in the slit-tapestry kilim technique, the textile has a flat, smooth surface and exhibits slight irregularities and charming signs of wear, adding character and authenticity. Small patches and repairs are visible, serving as subtle reminders of its age and continued use through generations.
