This vibrant textile is a vintage Guatemalan huipil panel, traditionally worn by indigenous Maya women as part of their ceremonial and everyday dress. The piece is richly handwoven in cotton using a tapestry weaving technique, showcasing large-scale floral motifs, particularly blooming roses in soft pinks, deep corals, and buttery yellows, flanked by swirling green and turquoise foliage. The central circular cutout, finely embroidered with a red edging, suggests that it once formed the neckline of a huipil, with the surrounding embroidery radiating in a sunburst-like pattern for emphasis. A geometric border runs along the top and bottom, featuring bold diamond shapes in vivid colours such as emerald, crimson, and ochre, reflecting Guatemalan indigenous symbolism and artistry. This textile is both a beautiful decorative fragment and a culturally rich artefact of traditional Maya weaving heritage.
