This antique Malian tribal textile, known as an Arkilla Jenngo, is a striking handwoven piece crafted from pure wool and cotton. Originating from the Fulani people of Mali, this textile was traditionally used as a marriage blanket, symbolising protection and cultural identity. The design features bold alternating bands of checkerboard patterns and intricate geometric motifs in deep indigo, soft beige, and earthy tan. The balanced rhythm of squares and elongated diamond forms reflects the artisan's mastery of symmetry and its symbolic significance. Rich in texture and history, this Arkilla Jenngo serves not only as a functional textile but also as a visual record of West African heritage, Fulani social customs, and the enduring beauty of handwoven craftsmanship.

Authentic vintage and antique African textiles are handwoven with wool and cotton. Each one is an exceptional work of art and unique.

Pictures are taken in natural light to portray the most realistic colours possible. Due to the handmade and preloved nature, slight imperfections and flaws are not defects.

Our textiles are professionally restored, and the fringes secured, ensuring many more years of life.

It’s 1990 all over again!

In the early 1990’s, my wife I were obsessed with hand woven, vegetable dyed Turkish carpets from Azeri/Woven Legends. We spent so much time at ABC Carpet & Home in NYC, we became good friends with the head rug buyer!! We haven’t purchased a rug in years, but I found a wonderful Woven Legends carpet at Shopvintagerugs and bought myself an early birthday present. The rug was shipped from Pakistan on Monday, made its way to Dubai, then Boston, Memphis and finally arrived to us today. I couldn’t be happier!
