$167 $278

Size: 2.5 x 2.6 ft.

Origin: India

Circa: 1960s

Material: Cotton & Metal Thread

This is a vintage Indian textile crafted from cotton with metallic thread embroidery. The piece prominently features repeated depictions of the iconic Taj Mahal, surrounded by floral motifs and decorative borders. The metallic threads, likely silver or gold-toned, create a shimmering effect against the dark cotton background, highlighting architectural details and ornamental patterns.

The textile is inscribed with "TAJ MAHAL" at the top and "INDIA" at the bottom, emphasising its souvenir or commemorative nature. The central area has a symmetrical arrangement with multiple Taj Mahal images framed within a scalloped, medallion-like border, while the surrounding field is filled with meandering stitched designs that add texture and depth.

This type of textile was likely made as a decorative wall hanging, table cover, or souvenir piece, celebrating one of India's most famous landmarks. The craftsmanship and metallic thread use suggest artistic and cultural value, reflecting traditional Indian embroidery techniques.

Authentic antique and vintage Indian textiles are hand-embroidered with cotton, metal thread and wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and one of a kind.

Pictures are taken in natural light to portray the most realistic colours possible. Due to the handmade and preloved nature, slight imperfections and flaws are not defects.

Our textiles are professionally restored, and the fringes secured, ensuring many more years of life.

It’s 1990 all over again!

In the early 1990’s, my wife I were obsessed with hand woven, vegetable dyed Turkish carpets from Azeri/Woven Legends. We spent so much time at ABC Carpet & Home in NYC, we became good friends with the head rug buyer!! We haven’t purchased a rug in years, but I found a wonderful Woven Legends carpet at Shopvintagerugs and bought myself an early birthday present. The rug was shipped from Pakistan on Monday, made its way to Dubai, then Boston, Memphis and finally arrived to us today. I couldn’t be happier!
