This antique Turkish Cecim Soumak Kilim is a fine example of Anatolian textile artistry, showcasing both the technical mastery and symbolic depth of traditional weaving. Characterised by its intricate soumak (weft-wrapping) technique, the kilim presents a richly textured surface with geometric and symbolic motifs carefully integrated into its structure. The central panel, framed with contrasting borders, features stylised patterns in shades of indigo blue, golden ochre, soft tan, and muted red, reflecting the earthy tones and natural dyes historically favoured by Anatolian weavers.
The design features a lattice-like diamond background with a bold central medallion surrounded by abstract tree and star-like figures, often symbolising protection, fertility, and the continuity of life. Its multiple borders, adorned with smaller geometric and wave-like motifs, create a rhythmic frame that enhances the overall harmony of the piece. Finished with hand-knotted fringes, this Cecim Soumak Kilim is not only a decorative textile but also a cultural artefact, embodying centuries of Anatolian tradition, craftsmanship, and storytelling woven directly into wool and cotton.
Authentic vintage and antique Turkish Soumak are hand-woven with wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and one of a kind.
