This antique Caucasian Shirvan hallway tribal rug, made of wool, is a striking expression of traditional craftsmanship from the eastern Caucasus. Characterised by its vertical alignment of bold geometric medallions, the rug’s narrow and elongated format makes it ideal for hallways, where it can create a strong visual flow.
The central field features a series of large, stepped hexagonal medallions flanked by angular motifs and stylised tribal symbols. Woven in a rich palette of indigo, brick red, ivory, sky blue, and earthy camel, the design captures the essence of Shirvan tribal identity, sharp, symbolic, and powerfully graphic.
The border ensemble is equally detailed, featuring alternating small-scale diamond patterns and serrated motifs, all framed by fine guard bands, meticulously drawn. The aged patina and areas of wear add a sense of historic depth, where the softened palette and exposed foundation speak of a life well-lived and generations of use.
Woven with handspun wool and dyed with natural pigments, this rug is not only a decorative treasure but a living testament to the tribal artistry of the Caucasus. This piece brings both texture and story into the home.
Authentic vintage and antique Caucasian rugs are hand-knotted with wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and unique.
Pictures are taken in natural light to portray the most realistic colours possible. Due to the handmade and preloved nature of these rugs, slight imperfections and flaws are not considered defects.
Our rugs are professionally restored, and the fringes secured, ensuring many more years of life. Additionally, we recommend using a rug pad with a grippy back to keep your rug in place and to smooth out any wrinkles that may have occurred during shipping. Using a rug pad will also safeguard your carpet from deterioration and, therefore, extend the life of your rug.
