This striking antique Turkoman Tekke tent band is a masterful example of nomadic textile art, traditionally woven by the Tekke tribe of Central Asia. Crafted in wool using a meticulous flatweave and supplementary weft technique, the piece features a commanding linear format, originally intended to adorn the exterior of a yurt during ceremonial occasions.
Its design is composed of powerful, repeating diamond medallions in a vibrant palette of deep rust, ivory, black, terracotta, and muted teal. These medallions are framed by complex stepped and hooked motifs, symbolising protection and tribal identity. The vertical rhythm of the band is accentuated by its long, narrow shape and segmented patterning that flows across multiple joined panels.
Despite visible wear and historic repairs, the textile retains its graphic strength and cultural resonance. A relic of mobile architecture and spiritual expression, this tent band tells the story of resilience, movement, and artistic precision from the heart of Turkoman tribal life.
Authentic vintage and antique Turkoman tent bands are hand-knotted with wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and unique.
