This beautiful antique Caucasian Shirvan hallway rug is a finely woven piece that showcases the distinctive craftsmanship of the Shirvan weaving tradition from the Eastern Caucasus. With its elongated runner format, it is ideally suited for hallways or narrow spaces, offering both functionality and decorative richness.
The rug features a dark indigo field intricately filled with rows of stylised boteh motifs, paisley-like shapes symbolising fertility and life, interspersed with rosettes and geometric medallions in a repeating vertical rhythm. The use of rich crimson, ivory, coral, and touches of golden ochre lends the design a harmonious vibrancy that does not overwhelm the eyes.
Framing the central field are multiple narrow borders, each finely detailed with scrolling vine work, floral heads, and angular motifs, culminating in a broader, red border that anchors the composition. The tight weave and crisp drawing reflect the technical skill of the weaver, while the soft handspun wool adds warmth and texture.
Timeless and dignified, this Shirvan runner stands as a testament to tribal artistry, elegantly blending symbolism, symmetry, and durability in one enduring textile.
Authentic vintage and antique Caucasian rugs are hand-knotted with wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and unique.

Our rugs are professionally restored, and the fringes secured, ensuring many more years of life. Additionally, we recommend using a rug pad with a grippy back to keep your rug in place and to smooth out any wrinkles that may have occurred during shipping. Using a rug pad will also safeguard your carpet from deterioration and, therefore, extend the life of your rug.
