This is a beautiful antique Caucasian Yomut (Yamoud) tribal wool rug, richly steeped in Turkmen nomadic heritage. Handwoven with deep, earthy tones dominated by rich madder reds and dark browns, the rug features the iconic Yomut "gül" motifs repeating diamond-like medallions arranged in neat, disciplined rows.
The finely knotted wool has a soft, aged patina that enhances the natural variation and charm of the design. Each gül is accented with subtle shades of ivory, burnt orange, and indigo, creating a rhythmic and symmetrical field. Narrow geometric borders frame the composition, while the wider end panels exhibit traditional element patterns typically reserved for symbolic or tribal expression.
This tribal rug, both utilitarian and decorative, speaks to the mobility and artistry of the Yomut people. With its restrained elegance and powerful geometry, it's not just a rug, it's a cultural artefact and a striking piece of woven history.
Authentic vintage and antique Caucasian rugs are hand-knotted with wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and unique.

Our rugs are professionally restored, and the fringes secured, ensuring many more years of life. Additionally, we recommend using a rug pad with a grippy back to keep your rug in place and to smooth out any wrinkles that may have occurred during shipping. Using a rug pad will also safeguard your carpet from deterioration and, therefore, extend the life of your rug.
