This gorgeous vintage Persian Bakhtiyar Kelleh rug is a magnificent example of tribal artistry from central-western Iran. Featuring a grand tripartite medallion layout, it boasts three richly ornamented hexagonal medallions set against a vibrant terracotta field. The medallions are filled with stylised floral sprays and garden motifs in shades of ivory, midnight blue, forest green, and muted rose, typical of Bakhtiyar weavers who often drew inspiration from Persian garden architecture.
The field is framed by angular, stepped outlines and secondary corner elements that add geometric strength and symmetry to the design. Its striking main border features an elegant floral pattern in alternating cartouches, rendered in deep navy and soft cream, offering bold contrast and rhythmic balance to the central composition.
Hand-knotted in fine wool, this Kelleh-format rug, long and narrow, was traditionally woven for Persian reception halls or passageways. Its robust construction, detailed design, and earthy palette make it not only a functional piece but also a striking visual statement steeped in tribal heritage and botanical symbolism.
