This antique Indian Agra hallway runner rug, likely from the late 19th to early 20th century, features a rare pistachio green field adorned with large-scale curvilinear floral motifs, including stylised palmettes, rosettes, and scrolling vines. The richly detailed ruby-red border is filled with floral medallions and elongated cartouches, framed by intricate guard borders. Hand-knotted with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, the rug reflects the opulence of Mughal-influenced Agra weaving traditions and Persian design sensibilities. In the early 1990’s, my wife I were obsessed with hand woven, vegetable dyed Turkish carpets from Azeri/Woven Legends. We spent so much time at ABC Carpet & Home in NYC, we became good friends with the head rug buyer!! We haven’t purchased a rug in years, but I found a wonderful Woven Legends carpet at Shopvintagerugs and bought myself an early birthday present. The rug was shipped from Pakistan on Monday, made its way to Dubai, then Boston, Memphis and finally arrived to us today. I couldn’t be happier!
