This is an antique Turkoman Basir rug, showcasing the bold, tribal artistry of Central Asian weaving traditions. It features a striking series of large, diamond-shaped medallions, filled with intricate geometric patterns, set against a deep burgundy red ground. Dark blue, ivory, and touches of green add contrast and depth, while smaller motifs such as stylised flowers and abstract forms fill the spaces between. The wide borders are decorated with repeating octagonal gul motifs, a hallmark of Turkomen design, framed by narrow guard stripes with diagonal latticework. This rug's rich colours and strong graphic presence reflect the nomadic spirit and skilled craftsmanship of the Basir weaving tradition.
