This extraordinary antique Balouch rug is a powerful example of tribal artistry from the nomadic weavers of the Baluch region, likely spanning eastern Iran or western Afghanistan. Characterised by its unique prayer rug format with a distinct stepped mihrab, the rug features a mesmerising field filled with a repeating lattice of starburst motifs in earthy tones of walnut brown, ochre, midnight blue, and muted rust. The densely patterned design is enclosed by a series of intricate borders with hooked and angular floral elements, lending structure to its richly layered composition. Woven with hand-spun wool and dyed with natural pigments, this piece reflects both deep cultural symbolism and refined craftsmanship, making it a prized collectable for lovers of antique tribal textiles.
Authentic vintage and antique Baloch rugs are hand-knotted with wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and unique.
