This gorgeous antique Caucasian Kazak wool rug radiates bold tribal energy and timeless craftsmanship, a stunning example of 19th-century village weaving from the South Caucasus. Its design is anchored by a series of powerful cross-shaped medallions in a deep indigo blue, each centred with stepped diamond motifs that speak to the strong geometric traditions of Kazak weavers.
Set against a saturated madder red field, the medallions are flanked by stylised motifs likely symbolic of trees of life and double-hooked amulets woven in soft ivory, coral, pale blue, and golden ochre. These elements create a rhythmic vertical flow and reflect the spiritual and cultural narratives embedded in tribal weaving.
The borders are rich with angular rosettes and serrated leaf forms, all framed within narrow guard bands that complete the composition with structure and finesse.
