This antique Caucasian Kuba tribal wool rug is a striking example of 19th-century craftsmanship from the Eastern Caucasus region. It features a deep indigo field richly adorned with intricate geometric motifs, stylised flora, and symbolic medallions rendered in vivid tones of crimson, ivory, burnt orange, and olive. The densely packed patterning is balanced by a central prayer-like niche and mirrored arrangements that hint at spiritual and cultural significance.
The borders are equally elaborate, with serrated leaf and cross motifs enclosed within multiple guard bands, each rendered in vibrant contrasting hues. Handwoven by tribal weavers in the Kuba district renowned for producing some of the finest Caucasian rugs—this piece reflects a high knot density, vegetal dyes, and a sense of rhythm and movement that speaks to its nomadic heritage. It’s a visually dynamic rug, full of history, spirit, and artisan precision.
Authentic vintage and antique Caucasian rugs are hand-knotted with wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and unique.

Our rugs are professionally restored, and the fringes secured, ensuring many more years of life. Additionally, we recommend using a rug pad with a grippy back to keep your rug in place and to smooth out any wrinkles that may have occurred during shipping. Using a rug pad will also safeguard your carpet from deterioration and therefore extend the life of your rug.
