This beautiful antique Caucasian Shirvan wool kilim is a striking example of flatweave artistry, woven with bold tribal rhythm and vivid natural dyes. Originating from the Shirvan region of the eastern Caucasus, it features a dynamic, horizontal stripe composition filled with powerful diamond lattice motifs and repeating hooked "X" shape symbols often associated with protection and continuity in tribal cultures.
Woven entirely in hand-spun wool, the kilim boasts a richly saturated colour palette including deep indigo, madder red, olive green, ivory, and soft sky blue. The alternating broad bands are framed by narrower guard stripes of stylised triangles and chevrons, adding contrast and movement to the design. This visual balance between geometry and colour creates an almost musical cadence across the textile.
