This vintage Turkoman wool rug features a bold Sewan Kazak design, renowned for its striking geometric symmetry and tribal symbolism. At the centre lies a powerful ivory octagonal medallion filled with angular motifs, rams’ horns, and stylised latch-hook forms, traditional emblems of strength and protection in Caucasian weavings. The medallion is framed by a warm terracotta field, accented with cruciform rosettes, stepped devices, and stylised trees or shrubs that enhance its tribal character.
The border ensemble is rich and layered, featuring a primary border in midnight blue that incorporates abstract hooked scrolls and protective elements, flanked by smaller inner and outer guards in contrasting tones. The earthy palette of rust, ivory, camel, and indigo achieved through natural dyes enhances its visual depth and authenticity. Handwoven in wool, this rug exemplifies the enduring heritage of Turkoman craftsmanship and Caucasian design, making it a distinctive statement piece for collectors or interiors seeking a touch of tribal elegance.
Authentic vintage and antique Turkoman rugs are hand-knotted with wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and unique.
