$241 $402

Size: 4 x 3.8 ft.

Origin: Kashmir

Circa: 1970s

Material: Pure Cashmere

This is a vintage Kashmiri embroidered shawl, crafted from a vibrant blue textile, likely fine cashmere, known for its softness and warmth. The shawl features exquisite hand embroidery in a classic Kashmiri style, using silk or cotton threads in warm gold, ochre, orange, and white tones.

The design showcases a rich floral and paisley border that frames the entire shawl, a hallmark of Kashmiri craftsmanship. In the corners, larger paisley and floral motifs are meticulously embroidered, adding visual weight and elegance to the composition. The embroidery is delicate yet dense, displaying the traditional Kashmiri needlework known as “sozni” or “ari,” characterised by fragile, detailed stitches that create intricate patterns.

This shawl reflects the region’s rich textile heritage. It would have been a functional and decorative accessory, prized for its artistry and beauty. It likely served as a statement piece, offering warmth and a touch of refined elegance.

Authentic antique and vintage Kashmiri textiles are hand-embroidered with cashmere and wool. Each one is an exceptional work of art and one of a kind.

Pictures are taken in natural light to portray the most realistic colours possible. Due to the handmade and preloved nature, slight imperfections and flaws are not defects.

It’s 1990 all over again!

In the early 1990’s, my wife I were obsessed with hand woven, vegetable dyed Turkish carpets from Azeri/Woven Legends. We spent so much time at ABC Carpet & Home in NYC, we became good friends with the head rug buyer!! We haven’t purchased a rug in years, but I found a wonderful Woven Legends carpet at Shopvintagerugs and bought myself an early birthday present. The rug was shipped from Pakistan on Monday, made its way to Dubai, then Boston, Memphis and finally arrived to us today. I couldn’t be happier!
