When it comes to glorious botanical patterns and reflecting luxuriant oriental
gardens and their teeming fauna, Agra rugs are unique. This monumental Agra
carpet probably belonged to a mighty Maharajah.
Mythical birds of paradise roam in the main field, surrounded by mille fleur flowers and branches of trees. The four pairs of cypresses and four single cypresses represent everlasting life. The cypress is used in rituals with the dead yet symbolises
the eternal life that comes after.
The equally compelling borders with further botanical motifs and mythical birds
enclose the grandiose symmetry. The fantastic colour palette of rich tones of bottle green, olive green, caramel, beige, blue and purple balance the abundance of motifs beautifully. This Agra is still in good condition with a soft and luminous pile. If correctly maintained, the rug will serve its owners for generations.
